They are pioneers as they come from families who are generational tenants, but recently they have broken the mould to become first home buyers. Plus, the road they had to take to achieve their property dream was over 90% borrowing via the first home loan sponsored product offered by Kāinga Ora (Housing NZ) which isn’t a walk in the park, as the hoops they had to jump through were of circus act proportions. In other words, government could do a better job helping people into their first homes. So, what this young family have achieved is significant.
When we met to discuss the loan structure their motivation was not to be tenants and to provide a stable home environment for their son. What other motivation does a parent need to provide a permanent roof over their child’s head regardless of how hard it was to achieve the goal? Teina and Stefen had a goal which a lot of people in similar circumstances would think was unattainable, but they persisted, and boy did they persist but at the end of the day they won.
Congratulations for purchasing your first house.
